Exploration of Self | Short Story – ResilienceReads

Through the wreckless trees she fought her way through the entanglement.

Seeking a purpose.

Stepping on sharp stones and hidden rocks, she grasped the edge of a branch seeking refuge only for its weak foundation to snap. Marla was determined to find the truth in the woods because the woods spoke to her as no human could. In nature, she felt the tears of the trees and the heavy burden of the soil pressing against her feet as the Earth walked with her. The many stories it told as she listened with intent.

Marla was a determined sort. She was cut from a different and unique cloth. A cloth that is only produced once in a lifetime. She was seeking truth about herself, so she ran to the woods as she believed only they could help her.

After walking through the forest for 10 hours, she found the tree she was looking for. The tree, she believed, could end all sorrow and questioning. She went up to the Oak, and She laid her hands. She instantly felt peace as she closed her eyes, and listened to nature all around her. Under her, the ground started moving, and her legs started shaking. A little rumble of the Earth made her collapse to the wet ground.

As she stood up, the tree where she believed could heal her started to rip from its roots. She was in shock as she couldn’t believe what what happening. As the tree was coming towards her, she leaped and tumbled to the other side. As she rose in sadness, she went over and positioned her whole self on the now fallen tree.

Long ago, Marla’s husband was found next to the Oak tree drinking alcohol as he promised he that he would stop, but he didn’t. He was found deceased there as well.

Marla believed she could find healing in the same place where she found hurt. Those two simply can’t co exist in the same space. As she learned, the tree almost destroyed her as well.

My One Gallon Water Lifestyle

I first heard about this on YouTube where various YouTuber’s were drinking a gallon of water a day to either help lose weight or brighten their skin. They planned on doing this “challenge” for 7 days. Some even did it longer, and when They did they experienced significant results!

I am trying to lose weight and Remove excess toxins from my body. Doing a recent photo/video shoot really got me pumped to really take care of my body, not just for open calls, and other possible opportunities, but for myself. I said to myself I don’t want to do a challenge, but make this into a permanent lifestyle.

It is really important to consume water on a daily bases. Honestly, it is a trial for me to get my daily intake, but I figured if I keep a gallon of water on my tv stand, then I’ll drink it. This theory has proven true. I was able to drink a half gallon the first day, and unfortunately, none the second. Why? I was drinking tap water, but I despise the taste, so I boiled some, and I’m waiting for it to cool down as I write this.

I am really trying to better myself, and my lifestyle. Especially health wise. Yeah, I still have my Pepsi, but I know with the right foods and drinks, I’ll be set. I aim to re-purchase my Brielle Juicer, so I can juice again after it accidentally got tossed while I was cleaning my place a while back.

It has always been a struggle drinking water. For my mom however, it was always a breeze, but We need water as our bodies are made mostly of it. The struggle is also due to my feverish sugar addiction which I will discuss in another post. However, I really want to do better. This is one of my first baby steps in the right direction.

In other news, I went for an interview recently at Pocono Modern, but They chose another candidate. I was bummed, but this is why I aim to be a successful entrepreneur. I have a few things in the works, and I pray one day, I won’t have to struggle anymore, but I’m a fighter. Always.

Until next time,

DIY Tribe : Homemade Mouthwash

Greetings Beautiful Souls!

Sorry that I have been M.I.A. I just started Pet Sitting again Full Time, and Leo has been taking up most of my time.

Leo is a Rhodesian Ridgeback Pitbull mix. He is 9 years old, and a very active dog. He loves chasing squirrels and eating grass.

He is such a sweetie though, and I enjoy taking care of him.

That is a picture of him on one of our recent walks, and He was smelling the blooms!

I was inspired to create this Mouthwash by the Environmentally conscious and Zero waste youtuber, Shelbizlee. I first found her through her dumpster dive videos then she transitioned into this forum, which is great. It allows me to reflect on my own wastefulness and be more environmentally friendly.

You can find Shelbizlee on YouTube and twitter and Instagram under the same name!

She has really great insight and ideas and I learn a lot.

If you read my last blog post then you would have seen that I had store bought blue listerine, but I wanted to exchange that for a better alternative.

Listerine has many ingredients in it that are not overall good for your mouth and gums. Yes, it does serve it’s purpose, but when I learned about this. I had to try it because when you know better, you do better.

The ingredients used for this Mouthwash was water, baking soda and essential oil.

In Shelbizlee’s tutorial, she used peppermint esssential oil, but I decided to use eucalyptus oil. Both still garners the same result. As she used her flask, I used my cork bottle I bought from the Dollar Tree.

Honestly, I winged it, but I did use her recipe as a guide.

Shelbizlee used a small container, but mine was pretty big, so I had to use a bit more and I swapped out some ingredients to make my own.

The Recipe Calls For…

  1. 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  2. 8 oz purified or distilled water
  3. 2-10 drops of essential oil

The baking soda will settle to the bottom, so make sure to shake it before each use.

Making your own Homemade Mouthwash saves money, the environment and unnecessary chemicals you would find in store bought mouthwashes.

It whitens your teeth and freshens your breath! Everyone wins.

    Swishy, swishy now,

Happy Halloween 🎃 to everyone! How will you spend it?

Tea Garden : Bigelow Constant Comment Tea Review

    Hello Lovelies!

It has been a while since I made a tea review since my first Bigelow Salted Caramel one, so here I am about to whip another out at ya!

Time to sip on some good tea honey! 🍵🍵🍵

    Going Back

In my Salted Caramel review, I discussed how I wanted to try Bigelow’s you can say legendary tea, Constant Comment tea, so when they were on sale on Shoprite. You know I had to take advantage of that deal.

    From the reviews…

“Will warm you in the Winter”

    “Delicious and refreshing”

“This is my all time favorite. Perfect balance of flavor to suit my taste.”

“She loved it from the 80’s.”

The Bigelow original. No recipe makes us prouder. To this day members of the Bigelow family are still the only ones who blend this secret recipe of black tea, rind of oranges and sweet spice. One sip &  you will know there is still no tea like it… take a whiff then enjoy the one and only “Constant Comment”.

    At First Glance

Honestly, when I read, “Orange rinds” and “sweet spice” I was like ehhhhh I don’t know about this. I was thinking I’m sure that little twist would be interesting, but hey live a little!

    When I tasted it however…

    BOOM!!!

Heaven’s gate delivered such warmness and sweetness to my soul. As I poured goodness into my cup, hesistant of the intrigue that lied ahead. I was enamored in silky waves of spice!

I wasn’t expecting this at all. I added 4 spoons of sugar, and it enhanced the flavor experience even more. I have read the good and bad reviews, but the balance of the oranges with the spice is just extrodinary.

I don’t have a favorite tea. As you know, I am not a fan of having “favorites”, but I do have to say, surprisingly, this is my all time favorite tea.

    The Reviews Are In

    • Amazon – 4.7
    • Target -5.0
    • Steepster – 70%
    • Influenster – 4.8
    • Rate Tea – 77%
    • Iherb – 4.0

Imho, I rate this tea, a 4.7 only because I really hate adding sugar or honey to my tea, but without it, the spices are a bit overwhelming if you are not used to that type of tea, as well as the orange aroma, but once the necessary condiments are added, it all balances quite well. Nonetheless, it is still an exquisite blend.

    Let Them Eat Cake!

It has come to my attention that there is a Constant Comment Cake!

Wouldn’t I love to indulge in that!! Yum!

My Music Mosiac: Kevin Max – Existence

    Hello lovelies!

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. I am starting a series called, my music mosiac which discusses music I am listening to right now! It’s not a Top 5 list or anything like that, but I just explain what the song means to me and it’s background.

    Rock on!!! 🔥

    Stereotype Be

This is one of Kevin Max’s solo albums. He was once apart of the Christian Contemporary group, DC Talk, which in my opinion is the Christian version of The Beatles.

    Yeah that good…

They had hits such as Consume me, Between You and Me amongst others. Their musical style was very unique and innovative, and it brought a freshness to Chriatian music that hasn’t been reborn since.

They did come together in the 2000’s to do a Renuion Jesus Freak Cruise which I wish I would have known about otherwise I would have been on that boat!

    Back To The Program!

This song, Existence, spoke to me because it goes through the nuances of our life here on Earth and living it. Finding our purpose, defeating temptation, trying to be better and trying to just, be. I have this song on repeat! I believe it speaks to everyone on some level.

    The Lyrics

    My Favorite Lyric

“All these politics of life and death and relevance”

In this life here on Earth, our focus is whatever is in our eyegate. What we go through day to day.  Trying to decide what’s “relevant” and how it can possibly help us, how we can find value in it. The theories about life and death, and are they true. So many questions we have in this existence. While here, I believe we are existing to trust God.

We are all born with a purpose. We are existing to fufill something only we can.

Check out the rest of his music! It is really good. It’s a 90’s oldie but goodie, and if you are into rock with a bit of rap, this is for you! Believer and Non Believer alike! It speaks to the core of us.

Don’t be sad in your subplot,

    Skincare Sanctuary: Skin Basics 101

    Hello Goddesses!

I pray you all are enjoying your day! Today in the Skincare Sanctuary beauty Series, I just want to take it back a bit and review the basics of skincare.

    What’s Your Skin Type?

    Skin type depends on:

    • How much water is in your skin.
    • How oily it is which contributes to softness.
    • How sensitive it is.

But wait! What’s your skin tone?

Your skin tone to an extent, depending on if you have less or more melanin, contributes to how tan your skin can get. This in turn can add to dryness or softness as you go throughout the spectrum.  It varies per person, but of course there are other factors as well.

Being aware of your skin type is important in terms of determining what makeup to buy or sunscreen to get.

I would say I am an Olive skin type. To say the least in the Summer, my tan game is strong Lol

    Back To The Program!

Normal – Not to dry or oily

    • Few Imperfections
    • No severe sensitivity

    • Radiant complexion

    • Dull, rough complexion
    • Less elastic

    Sensitive

    • Redness
    • Dryness
    • Itching
    • Burning

    What’s the Cause?

There are many factors that contribute to skin type. These include:

    • Genes
    • Aging
    • Weather
    • UV Radiation
    • Indoor heating
    • Puberty
    • Stress

How Can I make My Skin Look Flawless?

    💋

    Moisturizers

    • Emollients are complex mixtures of chemical agents specially designed to make the external layers of the skin soft and more pliable.

    Types of Moisturizers

    Face Mist

    • Water based
    • Freshens up complexion
    • Keeps makeup looking dewy

    Lotion

    • Not as heavy as a cream
    • Get a “noncomedogenic” so it won’t clog your pores.
    • Less likely to leave shiny or greasy finish.

    Serum

    • Lightweight
    • Absorbent

    Night Cream

    • Shinier finish
    • Thicker

Below is a table to go more in depth

I hope this little refresher helped! In my last post, I characterized my skin as combination. After a skin test, I found out I am normal skin! Yay!

Skincare Sanctuary – Garnier Skinactive Micellar Cleansing Water All in One Mattifying

    Hello Beautiful People!

Happy Labor Day! I hope you all enjoy this day off if you had one! I am enjoying mine. Relaxing.

There has been a cleanser that I have wanted to try for a while, and that is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. Something about it just seem so different, clean and refreshing. Like it could really get the job done!

I am a big proponent of Dickinson’s or Clean and Clear. Those are my go to’s for makeup removal and purifying pores usually. If I don’t have those present, Coconut Oil does the job just fine, but I was excited to try this. Heard mixed reviews, but for the most part, good.

I went to Rite Aid to buy mine. No Plenti points this time, but the price was $9.29, which to me isn’t bad. For a 13.5 oz bottle which from what I read from reviews can last around 2 months, you get bang for your buck.

The Green one I purchased out of their series I decided to try because it was mattifying and “purifying pores” stood out to me because who doesn’t want their pores purified?

Despite it being mattifying, you can use moisturizer afterwards if it really irks you. There is no stickiness, and despite it being targeted to Oily Skin, it works great for all skin types.

My skin type is Combination meaning oily on forehead and nose. However, dry and sometimes flaky on cheeks and under eyes. It worked amazingly on my skin, and it got rid of my lipstick, eyeliner, mascara and blush effortlessly.

    Sanctuary Seats

    The reviews are in…

    • Ulta – 4.2/5
    • Influenster- 4.6/5
    • Amazon – 4.3/5

I give this product a 5/5 only because it worked wonders for me, and left my skin feeling fresh and vibrant. It does indeed have that mattifying effect, but it’s no biggie with me.

    • No oil fragrance ✔
    • No rinse ✔
    • No harsh rubbing ✔
    • Removes makeup ✔
    • Cleanses ✔
    • Purifies pores ✔

I am tempted to try the others in this series, but for now. I am content with this!

    Overall

This was a purchase I am proud of! If you are looking for a non sticky, purifying cleanser that removes all of your makeup, and leaves you feeling vibrant and fresh then this, my dear, is the one for you!

    All Skin Types ✔

    Am I satisfied ✔

The Liprouge That Gives Me Resilience : Revlon Super Lustrous Black Cherry 477

    Hello Beautiful People!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I don’t post many beauty posts, and I want to start doing that more. I love all things makeup, foundation, lipgloss, matte etc, so I am going to start putting a few out there, and see how it goes!

I first want to start with one of my favorite brands, Revlon!

    Who doesn’t love Revlon!

I have bought many lipsticks from them, and one of my faves is the Super Lustrous Black Cherry #477!

The color is super gorgeous, and I am in love with that deep true Plum Shade.

    Walmart Ratings : 5.0/5

    Amazon Ratings : 4.5/5

Very good ratings in my opinion!

    Swatch It Up!

    One Swipe
    Two Swipes

I sincerely love this color. It’s has a deep true plum shade, and it is very moisturizing. However, it can be patchy.

If you are looking for a Goth look, just keep dabbing! I’m all for the Sexy Vamp vibe!

    Just lippin’

I figured let me add some pizzazz to this look, so I went to my trusty “Beauty Box” 💄

And what exploded was FIYA!! 💥

I started out with my beauty store purchased, Beauty Treats Eyeshadow Pallate.

I used white for the lid

A light brown for the crease

    Red for under eyebrow

I also put white eyeshadow in the small creases of my eye.

    Bathroom Light

    Overall

I really enjoyed this look! Super Lustrous is a def to have in your Collection! Despite some of the negatives, it is a really good lipstick.

However, it can leave your lips a bit dry, so you can put balm then the lipstick. I appreciate it not being sticky, and it is silky soft!

Lastly, it is very versatile, and looks great on various skin tones!

Do you own a Super Lustrous?

Which shade, and how do you like it?

    The Carcinogen Consumption

    Greetings bumblebees!

I pray you all keep making a buzz in the direction of your dreams.

I just finished watching the documentary that sure created a buzz in the food Industry called, What The Health. It was released March 7, 2017, and directed by Kip Anderson. The hour and thirty-seven long movie explored the corruption and deceit within the various food industries and the organizations that supposed to be striving for a greater good, but ends up on the lobbying circuit as well. Furthermore, the filmmaker believes, after finding out the facts behind the veil that the best way to go is Vegan in order to lead a long, prosporous life whereas consuming processed meat leads to more health problems down the line.

I really enjoyed viewing this film. I love watching docs in general, so I was excited to see another’s perspective. If I am able to know more, then it makes me a better person.

A topic that was widely discussed throughout the movie was Carcinogens.

Unfortunately, we are surrounded by carcinogens in our daily life. From the food we choose to eat to our environment.

Every choice we make affects us in one way or another. Every choice has a good or bad consequence, as we are faced with dozens of choices when we wake up.

What choice will you make today?

Kip researched deeply about various organizations like the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Assocation etc, and He was flabbergasted to uncover that some of their recipes contained processed meats and carcinogens contrary to the very cause they are supposed to be fighting.

    Does Everyone Have A Price?

My mom died of Breast Cancer, so when I see the Susan G. Komen Foundation supporting Yoplait, a dairy, that doesn’t aid in preventing cancer at all, and worst of all, KFC, a fast food establishment???

It doesn’t make sense, but like they say, if you want to know the truth, just follow the money.

My mother Never supported these organizations. She would always tell me, they have been trying to find the cure for decades. Why haven’t they found it yet, and what’s walking going to do? My mom sure spoke her truth, and I knew she was right. Dr. Sebi didn’t deserve to die, but that’s another post.

This was an eye opening watch for me. It was information I kinda already knew, but it was a needed refresher. My mom and I was pesca Vegetarian, and then we just started consuming meat again. At that time, we felt like we were missing out, but missing out on what? Dying sooner?

This film gave me the needed reflection I needed, and definitely some pointers to think about.

    Building A Foundation

I figured one cannot just dive right in. I learned that when I done 60 squats last weekend without exercising wanting to push myself, now I have Doms. That sucks, but I figured let me start with “Clean Eating.”

I love eating various fruit and vegetables like Kale and lemons, so adding that to my grocery checklist is no problem.

I assume in Cowspiracy, they discussed the dangers of Cow Milk. What The Health briefly discussed this topic as well. I have always known Cow Milk was bad. That’s why I opted for Almond Milk, which is delicious, but so expensive, and the manufacturers of regular milk know this. They want us to stay obese, so they can make more money.

I’m transparent, there are days where I have cereal, and drink whatever is in my fridge. I want to do better because I want to be here for my future children and grandchildren. It’s takes 30 days to break a habit, and start a new one. I was Vegetarian for 10 years. I need to make a lifestyle change.

I wanted to Research For Myself

    So…

I decided to check out some of the organizations in the movie Kip documented, and this is what I found.

Pork Tenderloin for Diabetes topped with tall fruits??

    “Perfect counterpoint to the Pork”

How about no pork at all??

According to the American Cancer Society, on the website, it states:

    “Red Meat ( Consumption of)”

    Group 2A Carcinogens

They in fact did state that consumption of Red Meat is classified as a Group 2A Carcinogen.

When we go to our local grocery store, and see that aisle full of processsed meat, are we going to think maybe another day or are you going to make a change today?

It’s not easy, I know it’s not easy, but we can change, if we really want to.

Did you watch What The Health?

    What are your thoughts?

    Are you Vegan or Vegetarian?

I would love to hear your thoughts!
